| 1/2 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1/2 | cup | butter | |
| 1/2 | cup | vegetable shortening | |
| 1/4 | cup | cocoa powder | |
| 1 | cup | water | |
| 1/2 | cup | buttermilk | |
| 1 | teaspoon | baking soda | |
| 1 | teaspoon | vanilla extract | |
| 2 | large | eggs | |
| Chocolate icing | |||
| 1/2 | cup | butter | |
| 1/4 | cup | cocoa powder | |
| 6 | tablespoons | milk | |
| 1 | teaspoon | vanilla extract | |
| 1 | pound | powdered sugar | |
Sift sugar, flour and salt together.
Mix in sauce pan butter, shortening, cocoa and water.
Bring to a boil over high heat.
Pour into sifted mixture, stir and add buttermilk, vanilla,eggs and soda.
Bake at 400 deg 25-30 minutes.
***CHOCOLATE ICING*** Mix in sauce pan butter, milk, cocoa and vanilla and bring to a boil.
Add powdered sugar, and ice while cake is hot.

This is a great dish to serve guests when you really want to impress them. Looks wonderful to the eye, especially using yellow and red peppers for some contrasting colours. And the taste is perfect for summer or any season. Very light and fresh with little bursts of flavors and textures.
